Studs Terkel played the role of the gleeful Luddite, never learning to drive a car, operate a computer or even reliably run a tape recorder despite many decades of radio and oral history making. Despite (or because) of this, the conversations about technology in the archive are marvelous curious about the role of new inventions in our world and how they can change us in unexpected and profound ways and Terkel spoke with some of the wisest and humanistic people in the 20th century who sought to use technology in radically new ways or make sense of technology through art or critical thinking.
