In a their man-made raft, Hesselberg and his crew travelled 4300 sea miles out in the open water. Erik Hesselberg talks about navigating the three-month long expedition on the Kon-Tiki from South America to French Polynesia. Hesselberg said everyone should have such an experience as he did, to be unencumbered while out at sea.

Bill McKibben, author and environmentalist discusses his book "The End of Nature." McKibben talks about climate and weather, greenhouse gasses, fossil fuels, chlorofluorocarbons, and carbon dioxide. He also explains how climate change could damage the ecosystems including birds. He ends the interview discussing what can be changed such as solar power.

Otto Friedrich discusses his "Time" magazine piece, his writing, and American history. Songs "Yankee Doodle Dandy," "Free America" by Joseph Warren, a German song, an 18th century Boston Tea Party song, and an 18th-century British soldier song have been removed for copyright restrictions.

Dr. Samuel Epstein, author and Director of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, at the University of Illinois Medical School, talks about his book, "Hazardous Waste in America." Dr. Epstein explains the four types of hazardous waste, (nuclear, petroleum, mining, and fossil fuels) and describes how they can better be disposed of including burning, recycling/renewing, and interim storage. He also describes a case study of Hoffman-Taff in Verona, Missouri.

Thor Heyerdahl, an adventurer and ethnographer, discusses his newly published book, "The Ra Expeditions." He talks about his adventures sailing from Africa to South America on the ships "Ra" and "Ra II" which were made from papyrus. Heyerdahl explains the trial and error he had getting the papyrus reeds, building the ship, and sailing. Briefly the two discuss environmental concerns with the ocean. Heyerdahl also talks about ancient peoples and their cultures and technologies they used. Near the end of the interview Thor reads a passage of his book.
