Ten years ago, explained Robert Brustein, not for profit theatres were starting to pop up. Brustein was optimistic about these new theatres being available in communities as a way of offering culture. Theatres will not be funded though, because President Reagan cut federal funding to theatres in half. In addition, the National Endowment for the Arts was not growing fast enough to assist all theatres involved.

Jonathan Spence, author and Yale University history professor, talks about his book "God's Chinese Son: The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom of Hong Xiuquan." He discusses Hong Xiuquan who believed himself to be the son of God. Spence begins his interview explores how Christianity came to China and how Hong came into contact with its teachings. He explains Hong's belief that the Qing dynasty was an enemy government that needed to be overthrown which led to the Taiping Rebellion.

The early influences of his father, his time in prison, and a bomb being sent to his home are among the topics covered in Dellinger’s book, “From Yale to Jail: The Story of a Moral Dissenter”. Dellinger is best known for being one of the Chicago Eight. He recalls a time in Lincoln Park, IL when he was warned to get out of there quickly because the police were told to attack Dellinger and his group.
