Halberstam points out the title of his book is actually irony because the men were not the best or the brightest but rather as a result of their bad decisions, America got tangled up in the Vietnam War.
Including himself, Al Santoli's book, "Everything We Had: An Oral History of the Vietnam War," contains first- hand accounts of the war from 33 soldiers. Santoli says he wrote the book because it was important to have a record of people's feelings and emotions about the Vietnam War.
