Win Stracke, Bill Adelman, and Bill Neebe discusses the Haymarket Riot and the following trials and hangings which changed the labor movement around the world. The group discusses the American labor movement and police brutality that led to the protest and the eventual accusal of eight men. They also explore the roles George Pullman, Marshall Field, and the police force played and how they used the protest to weed out union leaders they did not like. The group briefly discusses the future of the labor movement.

Weinstein states how at the time of creation for this magazine, most newspapers were bipartisan, intended to serve and satisfy as many people as possible, which allowed for less and less variation of opinion; Weinstein sought to combat this by producing a magazine that was very assured in its views. Singer focuses his discussion on the 1995 strikes in France and the political and economic events leading up to and influencing these strikes. Author and journalist Alexander Cockburn discusses his book “The Fate of the Forest: Developers, Destroyers, and Defenders of the Amazon.” Cockburn discusses the detrimental effects of deforestation not only on the environment, but for the indigenous groups, such as the Kayapo people, as well.
