Maya Angelou Interview

A Free Bird Sings

Stud’s interview with Maya Angelou has gotten some attention, because of her recent passing, and if you haven’t listened to it already, you should. Maya Angelou lived with grace, wit, eloquence, and more than anything, sassy spirit, and all of these traits are on display in her conversation with Studs.

Those curious can hear Studs ask her about growing up in Stamps, Arkansas, and Dr. Angelou recount her early adulthood experiences. Dr. Angelou reads excerpts from the book (I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings) and from her poem, “When I Think About Myself, I Almost Laugh Myself to Death,” discusses the origin of the book’s title, and recalls interesting characters from her life. The interview opens with an excerpt from a 1960 interview.
